traditional ROGUELIKE
Zorbus is a fantasy-themed, square-based, return-based traditional Roguelike game. Your goal is to go deep into the dungeon and find the gateway to the mythical land called Zorbus, where mortals can become demigod. You can recruit other creatures along the way, so you don't have to take risks alone.
as a roguelike game, Zorbus randomly creates dungeons, so each time you play a slightly different game. The game uses permadeath, which means that when a character dies, it is really permanent and the player must start a new game. You can save the game, but the saved file is deleted when it is loaded. Zorbus has no item identification or hunger mechanism.
living dungeons
in terms of theme, Zorbus drew influence from desktop Dodgers activities, adventures, and legends in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The
game attempts to create a dungeon that is dynamic, eventful, and rich in content. It's not just empty rooms and hallways. There are checkpoints with different shapes of theme content (throne room, prison, hidden treasure, etc.), and there is good connectivity between the regions.
dungeon residents act wisely, fight each other, run away when threatened, and try to summon their friends to overcome the threat. Most creatures can use items or pick them up from the dungeon floor. Creatures are not silent, but comment on things with dialogue bubbles.
the dungeon has dynamic lighting. Dungeon furniture and creatures have light sources in their hands, and they can be lit or unlit. Some creatures have dark vision. Living things respond to light and sound.
role-playing game rule system
the rule system of the game is slightly affected by the d20 system used in Dungeons and Dragons version 3. Zorbus has experience level but no role level (select race). At each level, you click to buy skills and talents (mainly combat exercises and spells).
controls and user interface
key bindings are configurable. Mouse control is supported, but not suitable for playing games. You can use the game controller. The game has a targeting system that makes it easy to use long-range attacks or talents. Available items and talents can be assigned to fast slots.
the display size is configurable. You can play with tile graphics or ASCII characters of 32x32, 48x48, or 64x64 pixels in window mode or full-screen mode. You can change the font and resize the text.
